Dr. Cyril Wecht, a renowned forensic pathologist, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, as per Pennsylvania officials.

The renowned former Allegheny County medical examiner, who is known for his analysis of the deaths of President John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey, Anna Nicole Smith, and others, has also provided his opinions on the Gabby Petito and Ellen Greenberg cases for Planet Chronicle Digital.

"The obituary from the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts states that he was the first civilian to examine the evidence from the assassination of President John F. Kennedy at the National Archives and the first person to discover that the President's brain and related material were missing. He was also the nation's leading critic of the Warren Commission's infamous single bullet theory. He personally conducted thousands of autopsies, testified in numerous criminal and civil cases, spoke around the world to various groups, held faculty appointments, authored numerous books and articles, and collaborated on several film and television projects, including the award-winning films JFK and Concussion."

In a Monday statement on X, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro praised Wecht as a "legendary figure in forensic pathology and criminal justice," stating that his pursuit of truth and justice is an inspiration.

"Throughout his career, Cyril demonstrated a genuine kindness and imparted many lessons on public service. Today, Lori and I are praying for his wife Sigrid, their four children, and the entire Wecht family. As I said to his son, Justice David Wecht, Cyril lived a full, impactful, and meaningful life. May Cyril Wecht's memory forever be a blessing," said Shaprio.

According to the obituary, Wecht, who was born to immigrant parents on March 20, 1931, leaves behind his wife Sigrid, four children, and 11 grandchildren.

After graduating from Fifth Avenue High School as Valedictorian, he studied at the University of Pittsburgh and later joined the U.S. Air Force after earning his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School.

Wecht met his wife while serving in the Air Force and married them after being honorably discharged. He pursued his law degree from the University of Maryland while working in the Medical Examiner's Office and later obtained his second law degree from Pittsburgh University around the same time his four children were born.

The obituary states that he worked diligently and skillfully to uncover the truth about the deaths and injuries of others, providing comfort and justice to numerous grieving and victimized families worldwide. He was deeply attached to Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, although he traveled extensively, he never considered living anywhere else except for his two years of military service and his brief stint in Baltimore after discharge.
