Remains of missing couple discovered at California nudist resort
On Saturday, Aug. 24, at Olive Dell Ranch in Colton, the last sighting of Stephanie and Daniel Menard was reported.
The neighbor of a California couple who went missing from a nudist resort is being charged with their murders after police found human remains beneath their home.
On Friday, the Redlands Police Department announced that authorities had entered the area under the home where murder suspect Michael Sparks was found on Thursday at the Olive Dell Ranch in Colton and began removing bags of evidence from the space. The Menards, Stephanie and Daniel, had last been seen on Saturday, Aug. 24.
"The Redlands Police Department stated that coroners officials confirmed the presence of human remains in the evidence. However, after starting to remove the evidence, the space showed signs of potential collapse, prompting the removal of all personnel."
The coroner's office is now examining the human remains.
On Friday, City of Redlands spokesperson Carl Baker informed reporters that investigators were "certain" that the Menards were still on Sparks' property.
Sparks was discovered concealed beneath Baker's house on Thursday evening following a prolonged period of unresponsiveness to law enforcement.
On Sunday, a friend reported the Menards as missing, and they were last seen at their home on Saturday at the resort.
"The Redlands Police Department stated that the Menards' unlocked vehicle was found down the road from their residence on the same day. Additionally, Stephanie Menard's purse was discovered inside her residence, along with her and Daniel's cell phones. However, the Menards' dog, a small white Shih Tzu named Cuddles, is still missing."
The motive for the alleged killings committed by Sparks is unclear.
