The governor announced on social media Friday that he will fly the Make America Great Again flag at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion on January 20 in honor of President Donald J. Trump's inauguration.
On Monday, the Republican governor invited others to join him in flying Trump's signature flag on Inauguration Day.
Despite President Biden's order to lower the American flags to half-staff in memory of Jimmy Carter, Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that the flags will be flown at full-staff.
On January 20th, the flags at the Capitol will be flown at full-staff to commemorate the unification of our nation in support of the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump, as stated by Johnson in a X post.
He announced that the flags would remain at half-staff the next day to pay tribute to President Jimmy Carter.
Biden decreed that flags on federal properties be lowered to half-staff for 30 days, concurrent with the inauguration of the president-elect.
Trump reacted to Biden's directive by posting on social media that the Democrats were "ecstatic" about the half-staff flag ceremony during his inauguration.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that the Democrats are excited about the possibility of the American flag being at half-mast during his inauguration, despite not truly loving the country.
"Due to the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may be at half-mast during the Inauguration of a future President for the first time ever. This is not something anyone desires, and no American can be content with it. We'll have to wait and see how it unfolds."
In 1973, when Nixon was sworn-in for his second term, the flags were flown at half-staff in honor of the late President Truman.
