Prosecutors allege that a man stabbed his Massachusetts girlfriend 10 times in the face and neck before leaving her body at the airport.
Allegedly, the man brutally murdered his girlfriend by stabbing her ten times in the head and neck.
A man who fled from a Kenyan police station following his arrest for murdering his girlfriend and abandoning her corpse at Boston's Logan airport in 2019 has entered a not guilty plea and been remanded in custody without bail.
Margaret Mbitu, 35, was found dead in an SUV at Boston Logan International Airport on Oct. 31, 2023, and her boyfriend, Kevin Adam Kinyanjui Kangethe, 40, is wanted for allegedly killing her.
Following the judge's ruling at the Suffolk Superior Court in Boston, Mbitu's family and friends released a statement.
""Today marks a step forward toward justice as we continue to fight until the coward responsible for taking our loved one away is locked up and never harms another family member again," Mary Kinyariro, a cousin, announced, sharing the family's statement."
Mbitu and her family will receive justice, as Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden stated that this was merely the first step on a lengthy journey towards it.
Hayden said, "She was deeply loved, a caregiver, a nurse who was cherished by every patient she served, a beautiful soul and a wonderful daughter and a loving sister."
On Tuesday, prosecutors disclosed new information about Mbitu's death, stating that Kangethe "violently assaulted" her in the car with a knife.
The attack left 10 wounds to her face and neck, prosecutors said.
At Logan International Airport, Mbitu was discovered in a parked car after being brutally murdered, with her body face down and the seat reclined, and the windows heavily tinted to make it difficult to see inside.
The young nurse's body was discovered after Kangethe allegedly abandoned the car and returned to his home country.
After investigating Mbitu's death, American and Kenyan law enforcement searched for Kangethe. He was initially found and arrested at a nightclub in Nairobi on January 29th.
On the 8th of February, he successfully evaded the police and climbed into a privately owned minivan.
He was later found and arrested in Kenya, where he remained until this week when he was extradited back to the U.S.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for him in court on Nov. 5.
