Police: Suburban mom killed by husband in front of 4-year-old daughter
Jaime Neumann, 47, was allegedly shot to death by her husband Steven Kramer, 39, in their Illinois home, and he will be held in jail until his trial.
In their home, his wife was fatally shot six times by an Illinois man who was subsequently arrested and charged with her murder.
At approximately 11 a.m. on September 5, the Warrenville Police Department received a call about a cardiac arrest and death at the residence of Steven Kramer, 39.
Kramer greeted the officer at the door and informed her that his wife, Jaime Neumann, 47, was in a bedroom on the second floor of the house.
In the bedroom, the officer discovered the victim lying face up on the ground, with blood on her face and body, and apparent injuries to her head.
Neumann was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials stated that an autopsy revealed that Neumann had been shot six times, including once between her left eye and nose, three times in the chest, once in the upper left thigh, and once in her right forearm.
Kramer shot Neumann after a physical confrontation between the husband and wife, which began as a verbal argument.
The Daily Herald reported that their 4-year-old daughter was present at home during the shooting in Chicago.
At the Warrenville Police Department, Kramer surrendered himself and was subsequently arrested.
"DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin expressed his deepest sympathies to Jaime's family and friends as they mourn her loss, particularly her children who are now facing a life without the love and support only a mother can provide. While nothing can be done to bring Jaime back to those who loved her, thanks to the outstanding work of the Warrenville Police Department, we will be able to bring a strong prosecution against the man who allegedly took her life."
Kramer was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, according to police.
A DuPage County judge ruled on Wednesday that he will remain in jail until his trial.
According to Warrenville Chief of Police Sam Bonilla, the actions taken by Mr. Kramer were unthinkable and left his family permanently scarred, as well as his children without their mother.
"Jaime was cherished by everyone who knew her, and she would never have willingly left her daughters behind. Unfortunately, her life was tragically cut short due to domestic violence, leaving her daughters without parents. A group of "committed mothers" wrote on a fundraising page for Neumann's daughters, stating, "Jaime was not only an exceptional mother and a loyal friend but also a truly kind-hearted person who positively impacted many lives.""
Kramer's arraignment is scheduled for October 7, 2024.
