Police say a teacher was arrested following a threat that led to the shutdown of a New Jersey school district.
Currently on administrative leave from the Montclair School District is Amir Doctry, a 45-year-old staff member.
On Monday, a New Jersey teacher was arrested following a perceived threat to staff and students that led to the closure of an entire school district, according to authorities.
A 45-year-old staff member from the Montclair School District, Amir Doctry, was arrested without incident for making a threat, according to the Montclair Police Department.
Doctry was charged with making terroristic threats and has additional charges pending.
An investigation was launched by authorities after they learned of an alleged threat made online via social media against a specific staff member on Sunday.
According to FOX5 New York, it was reported that Doctry allegedly threatened to shoot and kill the principal of Northeast Elementary School, where he was a staff member.
In collaboration with the Montclair Board of Education, the FBI, and other local authorities, the police investigated the source of the threat, leading to the closure of all schools in the district on Monday as a precautionary measure.
After Doctry's arrest, the police stated that there was no longer any threat to the community's safety.
"The Montclair Police Department reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety of schools, students, staff, and residents. It urged parents, students, and staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the department."
