Police officer assaulted outside of Kamala Harris rally in D.C., and suspects were arrested.
Two individuals were detained for attacking an office near the Harris rally.
On Tuesday night, two suspects were arrested by authorities in Washington, D.C. for allegedly attacking a police officer near Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign rally.
The MPD informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the arrests occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. near 17th St. and Constitution Ave., Northwest, which is close to the White House.
Two suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested near the Ellipse, the park where Harris held her rally. The campaign event was happening at the time of the arrests, with Harris speaking at approximately 7:40 p.m.
An MPD spokesperson stated that an individual tried to cross a police line near the intersection of 17th Street and 15th Street, which are the west and east corners of the Ellipse, respectively.
"The woman assaulted the officer as he tried to remove her, despite the officer's commands being ignored by the individual."
"Another person approached the officers from behind and attacked them. Both individuals were arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer. The officers were not harmed during the arrest."
At least one protester was detained at the event amid pro-Palestine demonstrations, but it is unclear if the arrestees were Harris supporters, protesters or unaffiliated with the rally.
In the crowd, protesters were observed wearing keffiyehs and brandishing signs that read "Stop Arming Israel" and "Stop U.S. Funding of Israeli Apartheid." The MPD did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry about any arrests made.
The Lincoln Project posted a critical comment about the rally on X on Tuesday, accusing former President Trump of turning the Ellipse into a "crime scene."
"Tonight, Kamala Harris is holding a rally on the Ellipse, marking a turning point from the Trump administration's treatment of the area as a crime scene to a platform for progress."
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
The incident is being investigated by D.C. authorities. No further information is available.
