Police: District attorney charged with shooting at fugitive suspect and hitting home with three children inside.
A Tennessee fugitive wanted for a triple homicide was allegedly shot at by Christopher Stanford.
A district attorney from Tennessee was indicted by a grand jury following an allegation that he fired shots at a fugitive suspect on November 21, resulting in the unintentional shooting of a home with a woman and three children inside, according to state officials.
On Monday, the grand jury of DeKalb County indicted Christopher Robert Stanford, the Attorney General of the 31st Judicial District, on one count of reckless endangerment, as announced by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in a press release.
A TBI press release states that during a pursuit of a wanted fugitive, Stanford fired a gun multiple times on Bell Street in Smithville, hitting a woman and her three children who were living in a home.
According to an indictment obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Stanford "unlawfully, intentionally and recklessly" fired his weapon, which passed through a chair on a front porch of a home and a front living room wall, putting the occupants at risk of death or serious bodily injury. However, no one inside the home was injured in the shooting.
The individual being pursued by the fugitive Stanford is believed to be connected to the November 20th triple murder.
On November 21, TBI launched an investigation into the incident involving Stanford, who is accused of shooting during the attempt to capture a man named Caleb Brookins on outstanding warrants from Warren County, Tennessee, as stated by Bryant Dunaway, 13th Judicial District Attorney.
Dunaway stated that the incident was "pleased by the actions of a woman named Hannah Rose."
On the morning of Nov. 20, three people were found dead on Merry Oaks Road. The Warren County Sheriff's Office arrested Jessica Root as the first suspect and later found Brookins in a vehicle driven by Rose, the sheriff's office said.
A Homeland Security officer was injured during Brookins' arrest on Nov. 21.
Three counts of criminal homicide have been charged against Brookins and Root, while Rose is accused of aggravated assault and felony evading arrest for hitting a law enforcement officer with her car while trying to escape.
Earlier this week, Stanford surrendered to the DeKalb County Jail and was subsequently released after posting a $10,000 bond.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Stanford's office for comment.
