The boyfriend of a missing Missouri woman was charged with murder after she was found dead.
The Barry County Sheriff's Office reported that Aaron Malone, 23, was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Aspen Lewis, 24.
On Monday, November 25, Barry County Sheriff's deputies were contacted by Malone regarding the possible abduction of Lewis, as revealed by court records obtained by FOX 4 Kansas City.
Upon arriving at the residence, investigators discovered a significant blood stain in the roadway behind Malone's truck, accompanied by fragments of jewelry.
Early on the morning of Nov. 25, officials stated that Lewis was last seen at her Exeter residence.
A criminal investigation was launched due to inconsistencies in Malone's statement about Lewis' disappearance, as officers received both a verbal and written account from him.
Surveillance footage obtained by authorities showed Malone's vehicle arriving at Lewis' residence at midnight on November 24, followed by screams.
According to court records, the video shows Malone leaving at approximately 1:30 Monday morning and returning just after 4 a.m.
Before Malone returned to Lewis' residence, he called 911, according to FOX 4.
The next day, Malone informed authorities about the whereabouts of Lewis' body.
Her body was discovered in a wooded area, covered with leaves and sticks, and had severe head injuries, officials stated.
On Monday morning, Malone was arraigned in Barry County Court and entered a plea of not guilty. Currently, he is being detained without bond in the Stone County jail.
