The officer who was killed in Harris County Constable Precinct 4 has been identified as Deputy Maher Husseini.
A Texas deputy constable was shot and killed on his way to work, prompting a manhunt that resulted in a suspect being taken into custody, according to police.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 identified Deputy Maher Husseini as the officer who was killed. The suspect was in custody following a short manhunt. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office spotted the suspect's vehicle and gave chase before it crashed into the water by Old Causeway in Galveston, according to FOX 26 Houston.
Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz stated that Husseini was driving to work in his personal car when a man got out of a vehicle, approached him, and fired at the deputy.
Diaz stated that the local constable was shot by an unidentified assailant in a tragic incident, and he sustained multiple injuries.
The suspect is a Middle Eastern male aged 35 to 40, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt, dark pants, and had thinning hair. No name has been released by authorities.
Diaz described the suspect's vehicle as a charcoal-gray Chevy Impala with a distinctive bumper disfigurement underneath.
Since 2021, Husseini has been working with Constable Mark Herman's Office and has been assigned to patrol the South-Central District.

Diaz previously stated that the loss of life had a devastating effect on the local community and should not have occurred.
"The loss of life is always traumatic, and any death is terrible in this community," he said. "As police officers, being a deputy brings us closer together in our mission to serve the community. It shouldn't have happened."
