Police accuse family of engaging in a "Sopranos"-style brawl with bats and guns against a rival paving company.
In a turf war, six men in Monroe County, Georgia are accused of attacking their paving business rivals.
On Dec. 19, six men from the same Georgia family paving company were accused of inciting a fight with a rival paving company, as stated in police records.
Several family members working for EH Paving in Monroe County have been allegedly assaulted by Mark Buckland Sr., Mark Buckland Jr., Willy Buckland Sr., Willy Buckland Jr., Luke Buckland, and James Small, according to records.
The sheriff of Monroe County, Brad Freeman, stated that the incident was reminiscent of a scene from "The Sopranos" TV series.
On Dec. 19 at approximately 1 p.m., while working for EH Paving, six members of the Buckhead family, who are employees of a rival paving company in Bolingbroke, arrived at the customer's driveway in Bolingbroke and attacked the victims with baseball bats, sticks, and other weapons, according to an incident report obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital.
A "large fight" involving "bats and guns" prompted the arrival of deputies.
According to the incident report, Mark William Buckland Sr., 50, attempted to strike his son, Willy Buckland Jr., 22, over the head with a bat. Buckland Sr.'s 21-year-old son-in-law, Small, and Buckland Sr.'s other son, Luke Buckland, 28, allegedly attacked the owner's son and nephew, respectively.
The owner of EH Paving claims that the Buckland family attacked his family while they were working on a paving job near one of their properties. The Bucklands felt that the job was disrespectful, and the owner alleges that Mark Buckland Sr. pointed a "cowboy-style" gun at him.
According to the incident report, the property owner, who contacted police, stated that a member of EH Paving fired a gun into a wooded area in an attempt to break up a fight.
Mark Buckland Jr. admitted to being punched in the mouth and later explained the incident as a misunderstanding when questioned by an officer about his family's presence on the property.
"According to 13 WMAZ, Freeman stated, "These are men who are adults and have good reputations.""
Mark William Buckhead Sr. is accused of tampering with evidence, pointing a gun or pistol at another person, and criminal trespass. Luke James Buckland is charged with simple battery. Mark Judy Buckland is accused of simple battery, inciting to rioting, and criminal trespass. Small is accused of criminal trespass and simple battery. Willy Jack Buckland Jr. is accused of criminal trespass and simple battery. Willy Jack Buckland Sr. is accused of criminal trespass and aggravated assault, according to Monroe County records.
The six men had been released as of Monday morning.
