Pennsylvania task force says Secret Service 'redlined' during Trump assassination attempt in Florida.
Ryan Wesley Routh was apprehended following a Secret Service agent firing at him at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Secret Service is facing criticism from a congressional task force after two failed attempts on former President Donald Trump's life in two months.
""America's Newsroom" reported that Rep. Mike Kelly, head of the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump, stated that the Secret Service is redlined and working overtime, double overtime, as they had informed us very clearly last Thursday."
"These folks are burned out.
"The Pennsylvania Republican stated that they are constantly hearing that they lack sufficient men and funds, and that they claim they do not have enough personnel to put in place."
According to Rep. Jason Crow, threats against members of Congress have quadrupled, resulting in understaffing.
According to Rep. Mike Waltz, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has consistently refused to provide stronger Secret Service protection to the Trump camp.
The "fever pitch" of political discourse in America may have caused the assassination attempts, as stated by Crow and Kelly.
"Crow, a Colorado Democrat, stated that political violence is unacceptable and urged both Republicans and Democrats to come together to condemn it. He emphasized that it is not necessary to be on one side of a party to reject this behavior. Instead, he urged leaders to focus on resolving issues through debate and discourse, which are American values."
The task force is "keeping track" of this second assassination attempt and has requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service about what happened and how security responded.
"The former President was not harmed, but we remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all of its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more."
According to authorities, Secret Service agents fired at him because they saw the barrel of his rifle protruding through a chain-link fence one hole in front of where Trump was standing.
An SUV was used by Routh to escape after a Secret Service member fired at him, resulting in his arrest, according to authorities.
On Monday morning, the suspected assassin was present at the Paul G. Rogers Federal Building U.S. Courthouse.
