Over New Jersey's largest reservoir, a drone sighting was reported, prompting federal investigation into the unsettling occurrence.
Recent sightings have been reported at Round Valley Reservoir and the Hunterdon County 911 Center.
New Jersey officials are taking the recent drone sightings, reported in 10 counties across the state, seriously, after the suspicious aircraft were confirmed to have been spotted near the state's largest reservoir.
The reason for the drones' presence near the Round Valley Reservoir in Hunterdon County, near the Garden State's border with Pennsylvania, is unknown, according to NJ.com.
The state has been hit by a wave of suspicious activity, with drones spotted in the recent onslaught.
Another drone sighting was reported near the 911 Center in Flemington, in addition to the recent one near the reservoir in Hunterdon County.
"At a Tuesday board meeting, Hunterdon County Commissioner John Lanza stated that there have been reports of single drones flying over people's homes for extended periods of time, as well as groups of up to eight drones flying together."
"Brayden Fahey, the Director of Public Safety and OEM Coordinator of Hunterdon County, stated that officials are taking the sightings seriously and are collaborating with federal authorities to investigate and resolve any concerns."
In mid-November, according to Patch, the drones were first reportedly spotted over Morris County, New Jersey, which is located approximately two miles north of the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.
On November 18, an unusual drone was sighted in the skies of northern and central New Jersey, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
Since then, drones have been spotted regularly across the state. They have been seen nightly in some areas and are occasionally reported traveling in groups, according to Patch.
More recently, drone sightings were also reported on Staten Island.
"Borough President Vito Fossella wrote to the FBI and FAA about large, military-style drones flying over parts of New Jersey and Staten Island in recent weeks."
Fossella described the drones as "odd and bizarre" because the identity, origin, and purpose of the drones are still unclear.
On Friday, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., who represents the borough in Congress, announced that she has requested temporary limitations on drone flights in the region.
The FAA imposed similar restrictions following the New Jersey sightings, including one over the Trump property, which expires this week, and another affecting Picatinny Arsenal, an Army research center, until December 26.
A briefing with state and federal Homeland Security officials, including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, state police, and the state's congressional delegation, has been held by Gov. Phil Murphy, D-N.J., following an FBI-led investigation into the matter.
"At this time, there is no known threat to the public," assured Murphy.
