Over 92,000 signatures on petition for LA Mayor Karen Bass to resign
Some residents and celebrities are urging Karen Bass to step down from her position.
As of Sunday morning, over 92,000 individuals have signed a Change.org petition calling for the resignation of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass amid ongoing wildfires in the region.
"Frustrated Californian" accused Bass of "gross mismanagement" during the natural disaster crisis and claimed she was not in the country when the fires started.
Last week, Bass faced intense criticism for traveling to Ghana, leaving her far from home during the devastation on Tuesday.
The petition states that water supplies are severely strained, billions of taxpayer dollars have been misallocated or left unaccounted for, and countless lives have been lost.
In Los Angeles County, there are currently five active wildfires: Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Hurst, and Archer.
Since her return to the U.S., Bass has been active on social media, with her latest post on X and Facebook on Saturday evening.
The speaker addressed Angelenos, acknowledging their shared experience of going through a crisis and expressing empathy towards those who have experienced loss, grief, anger, and shock. She shared her own observation of the devastation caused by the crisis and emphasized the importance of getting through it together. She assured the audience that they would overcome the crisis and emerge stronger.
Before her response to the wildfires in Los Angeles came under intense public scrutiny, Bass was highly respected by the Democratic Party's top leaders.
Obama predicted Bass would be an outstanding mayor of the city, while Biden once considered her a top contender for his vice presidential running mate in 2020.
Government officials are receiving harsh criticism from vocal celebrities such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patricia Heaton, and Jillian Michaels.
"Aurora Culpo, host of "Barely Filtered," told Planet Chronicle Digital that the disaster was not unexpected, as they had been aware of the possibility for fire and had the preparedness of a third world country in a place with high taxes. Those in power should be held accountable and resign."
Planet Chronicle' Gabriel Hays and Gabrielle Regalbuto contributed to this report.
