Over 500 animals perished in the fire at the Texas shopping center.
While most of the animals killed were birds, some hamsters, dogs, and cats were also affected.
A fire at a Dallas shopping center resulted in the death of hundreds of animals on Friday.
A pet shop at Plaza Latina shopping center lost 579 animals, mainly small birds, due to smoke inhalation, according to Jason Evans, a spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue.
By the time firefighters arrived, the building was engulfed in heavy smoke and flames, according to FOX Dallas.
It took them about two hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
The pet shop was filled with smoke, but the flames did not reach the animals. According to Evans, the birds, chickens, hamsters, two dogs, and two cats all died.
Unfortunately, all animals in the shop perished due to smoke inhalation despite DFR personnel's efforts to search and rescue, according to Evans.
The fire caused significant damage to the structure, including a partially collapsed roof, but no people were hurt.
The shopping center is home to various small businesses and was described on its Facebook page as a place for people to dine and purchase Latin goods and services.
A request for prayers for the families employed on the page was made in Spanish.
Dallas Fire-Rescue declined to comment on Planet Chronicle Digital's request.
