On Christmas Day, a man from Florida was apprehended by police for attempting to murder his wife and himself in a suspected murder-suicide, according to reports.
A first-degree attempted murder charge has been filed against Jonathan McPhee, 78, after he is accused of attacking his wife and subsequently calling 911 at their home on Pine Cone Way.
According to a legal document obtained by People Magazine, McPhee stated to the dispatcher, "I struck her and I will attempt to wound myself in the heart."
Upon their arrival, Largo Police Department officers discovered that McPhee had inflicted self-inflicted stab wounds and his wife had sustained blunt-force trauma.
Both individuals were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in a critical state.
According to an arrest report, while being attended to by medical staff, the defendant made a spontaneous statement, "Just let me die, I killed (redacted)."
The report stated that he sent a text to his wife's daughter, claiming to have "killed" her and threatening to commit suicide due to "financial and health problems."
He reportedly specified his desired funeral arrangements and life insurance handling.
