The U.S. State Department advises against traveling to Michoacán in Mexico.
"In Mexico, violent crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery are widespread and common. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Mexico due to travel restrictions and prohibitions on U.S. government employees. Additionally, local emergency services are often limited outside of state capitals or major cities in many states."
