Notre Dame reopening ceremony saw world leaders greet Trump in a 'presidential' manner.
Since winning the 2024 presidential election, this was Trump's first international trip.
On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump was welcomed warmly by world leaders at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
The video of the former president making his way to his seat and shaking hands with heads of state went viral, but President Biden did not attend. Trump sat near his wife and daughter, who also greeted the incoming president warmly.
Trump was given a red carpet treatment typically reserved for sitting presidents, and social media users promptly noted the elaborate display of pomp and circumstance.
One commenter on X stated that if the entire scenario had been presented as a movie plot, Hollywood would have rejected it due to its perceived unbelievability.
"At the official reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, President Trump was greeted by Prince William, world leaders, and heads of state from all over the world. It is safe to say that the US is now well and truly back and respected on the world stage," another person remarked.
"It's unclear whether this was the reopening of Notre Dame or the reopening of Trump as a global leader," Planet Chronicle contributor Raymond Arroyo wrote on X.
Not the Bee parodied the situation by stating that "it seems like Trump is already acting as president, without the need for an inauguration. The world has been eagerly anticipating the US to finally have strong leadership, and it has just arrived at Notre Dame."
Former Assistant Treasury Secretary Monica Crowley posted on X: 'One by one, world leaders rise to greet President Trump. This is what respect for our President and country looks like.'
During his visit to the cathedral, Trump was greeted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Britain's Prince William, whom he met with later at the British ambassador's residence in Paris.
Trump praised Prince William as a "good man" and commended his work during their meeting.
Before the occasion, Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shook hands in a gesture that rapidly spread online.
""Macron will require a hand massage after Trump's intense handshake," wrote George on X."
"Commentator Drew Hernandez stated that President Trump's handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron was one of the most dominating he had ever seen, indicating that the two leaders were back on good terms."
The handshake between Trump and Putin at the G-20 Summit in 2019 has become a viral moment.
President Biden was absent from the Notre Dame ceremony, which marked the five-year anniversary of the devastating fire that destroyed the centuries-old Paris landmark. The White House cited a "scheduling conflict" as the reason for Biden's absence.
Trump's return to the global stage through his appearance marked him as the center of the world's attention.
According to Brett Bruen, a public affairs and strategic communications expert and former U.S. diplomat, Macron's decision to share this moment with Trump highlights the significance of what Trump is accomplishing even before he takes office again, making it a major event in French history.
Bruen, president of the Global Situation Room, stated that he is being celebrated in Paris with all the glamour and glitz.
A week after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the trip to Paris was planned.
