New photos reveal the identities of the masked attackers who targeted Jewish students near Chicago's DePaul University.
At least one victim was physically attacked after antisemitic remarks were made.
Two suspects wanted for attacking two Jewish students near DePaul University on Wednesday afternoon in a "battery/hate crime" have been released by the Chicago Police Department (CPD).
According to CPD, the incident occurred in Lincoln Park near DePaul University, where two students were demonstrating their backing for Israel.
The offender verbally engaged the victim and made antisemitic remarks before repeatedly striking the victim, according to CPD.
A former member of the Israel Defense Forces was among the victims, as reported by Josh Weiner, co-founder of the Chicago Jewish Alliance, who spoke with both victims after the incident, according to Reuters.
Two males, approximately 20 years old and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, are the suspects.
The suspect wore a black balaclava, white T-shirt, and khaki pants. He stands between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall.
The second suspect has a short dark beard with shaved sides. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call Area Three Detectives at 312-744-8261.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., an incident occurred in front of the Student Center, causing a public safety alert to be issued for faculty, staff, and students.
Manuel stated on Thursday that he was shocked to reveal that the attack targeted two Jewish students at DePaul who were openly displaying their support for Israel.
The two students declined medical treatment for their injuries, he said.
Manuel expressed outrage that the incident happened on campus, stating that it was unacceptable and a violation of DePaul's values to respect and care for the dignity of every individual.
The university is collaborating with Chicago police to provide support and services to students.
He stated that they would do everything in their power to make those responsible pay for the outrageous incident.
After the attack, DePaul assured that it will take all necessary measures to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for its diverse student body.
"Our university recognizes that Israel is a core part of our Jewish community's identity, and we will not tolerate any acts of hatred or violence on our campus."
"Our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our university community," concluded Manuel.
Earlier this year, many schools in the U.S., including DePaul University, had active anti-Israel protests.
On May 16, Chicago police officers dispersed an anti-Israel protest on the university's quad, which had been ongoing for over two weeks and resulted in the closure of all green spaces.
