New Jersey beachgoer run over by police officer while sunbathing.
The woman's ribs and lung were allegedly injured by a Ford F-150.
Last week, a police officer accidentally ran over a woman who was relaxing at a beach in Wildwood, New Jersey.
According to the Star-Ledger, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy informed the Press of Atlantic City that the incident involved one of the department's Ford F-150 pickup trucks.
According to WPVI-TV, the victim, whose identity was not disclosed by authorities, sustained injuries including broken ribs, three fractured vertebrae, and a lung injury. The information was provided by the victim's boyfriend.
An ordinance violation was the reason for the accident involving the pickup truck being operated by an officer.
""On a call for service, the officer was performing his duties down there on the beach, but horrifically, he ran over a victim who was lying there," the police chief stated."
During Labor Day weekend, the victim was on vacation in Wildwood and was attacked, according to Murphy.
"The police chief commended the civilians on the beach for their outstanding performance in providing assistance."
Immediately after the car ran over the woman on the beach, the bystander named Rose Simone told WPVI-TV that fellow beachgoers started panicking.
The Chalfont, Pa., resident remembered how everyone was gathered around the truck, screaming and yelling at the person inside, "Stop! There's somebody under your truck! You hit somebody!"
A group of men appeared in the vicinity and stated that we must lift the front of the truck to extract her.
Simone had observed the woman before the incident occurred. She was dressed in dark clothing while lying on a beach towel.
"It was an accident, but one that could have been prevented," she remarked.
The victim is expected to survive.
