Neighbor arrested after missing Oregon nurse found dead days after returning home from her wedding.
Melissa Jubane, 32, was discovered deceased after failing to appear for work following a three-day search, according to Beaverton Police.
The tragic end to the search for a missing nurse in Oregon, who disappeared days after returning home from her wedding, has been confirmed after police found her body and charged her neighbor with the murder.
On Saturday, Beaverton Police confirmed that the remains of Melissa Jubane, 32, were discovered after a three-day search, which took place just two weeks after she married Bryan Llantero, a native of Kalihi, Hawaii.
According to KHON2, the couple had been dating for almost a decade before getting married.
On August 31, Imelda Llantero, Bryan's mother, informed KHON2 that the newlyweds returned to the Pacific Northwest after their August 24 wedding in Hawaii.
On Labor Day, the couple spent time together before Jubane had to go back to work on Sept. 3. However, Imelda Llantero revealed that she showed up for her shift on the 3rd but never showed up for her morning shift on Sept. 4.
Concern arose among Jubane's coworkers, friends, and family when she failed to report to her job as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland.
After a search of her property, her absence and lack of communication were deemed "unusual and alarming" by officers.
"Imelda Llantero stated that Melissa was not present, as her bag, wallet, and keys were missing, and her car remained parked in the parking garage."
Despite attempts by police and family members to reach Jubane throughout the day, her phone remained unresponsive, according to authorities.
It was determined through an extensive investigation that one of Jubane's neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance.
According to Washington County officials, Schubert was arrested and charged with Jubane's murder. His first court appearance is expected on Monday, police said.
The Beaverton Police expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community members who helped with the search for Melissa. They also conveyed their deepest condolences to Melissa's family, friends, and coworkers.
Although we recognize the community's interest and concern, we must maintain the investigation's confidentiality to protect its integrity.
Imelda Llantero's son is completely destroyed and devastated and has asked her to fly to Oregon to be by his side.
"Imelda Llantero stated, "I'm so glad Bryan met her. I told him to always cherish her. They were ecstatic, extremely happy.""
On Saturday, Jubane's workplace, Providence St. Vincent, issued a statement about her death to Fox 12.
