On Wednesday, police officers from the Macomb Police Department in Illinois were critically injured after being shot while serving an arrest warrant near Western Illinois University.
Two officers were attempting to execute a warrant in the 300 block of North Normal Street when gunfire erupted.
The officers, who were injured in the line of duty, are being treated at area hospitals and are in critical but stable condition, the department stated.
Law enforcement is still present and advising individuals to steer clear of the area. According to a Facebook post by police, there is currently no danger to the public.
