Missing Suzanne Simpson's daughter accuses father of taking mother's life after real estate agent's disappearance.
Near San Antonio, Texas, Suzanne Simpson's daughter accused her dad of disappearing due to his 'rage and control'.
Suzanne Simpson, a Texas luxury real estate agent, has been missing for over a month, and her daughter believes her father, Brad Simpson, "took my mother's life."
Chandler Simpson, 20, wrote on Instagram that his mother was abused by his father, who later took her life in a fit of rage and control, according to a report by the San Antonio Express-News.
On Oct. 6, Suzanne Simpson, a 51-year-old woman, vanished after an alleged argument with her 22-year-married husband in Olmos Park, San Antonio.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, a neighbor reported seeing Brad and Suzanne fighting on the night of Oct. 6 and later heard screams coming from a nearby wooded area. The neighbor observed that Suzanne was trying to escape Brad's grasp as he tried to pull her downwards.
According to the affidavit, the couple's youngest child informed school staff that her parents had been fighting, and her father had hit her mother in the face and possibly pushed her into a wall, and he had taken away her cellphone.
"I will not stop speaking as the voice of my mother until she is found. I will forever represent all victims of domestic abuse and assault. As my mother's daughter, I will tell our story over and over again. With every breath, I will make sure you remember her name. Suzanne Simpson was a victim of abuse and a victim of this community. Beyond being a victim, she was a phenomenal mother, hardworking, driven, loving and kind."
Although he faced accusations, authorities have not filed any charges against him regarding his wife's disappearance.
Silence is a form of blindness to domestic violence in our homes. The 20-year-old Simpson daughter wrote about her mother's tragic attempt to leave her abusive father, which resulted in her death.
"My community should be ashamed for not addressing domestic violence. Women in Alamo Heights are constantly marginalized by society and misogyny, and are silenced from speaking out. It's time to break the silence. It's time to speak up for my mom. It's time to speak up for yourself. Your voice will be heard. My mom fought for her life, her family, and herself."
Brad Simpson's brother had criticized his cooperation with law enforcement before his daughter spoke out.
"Barton Simpson, a husband and father, expressed his disbelief at anyone withholding cooperation in a case where a mother of four is missing. He believes that cooperation could provide answers to help the family find closure or move forward. However, Brad's refusal to assist, even if it poses some risk to himself, shows a concerning lack of empathy for those he claims to love."
Brad Simpson's attorney, Steven Gilmore, labeled the charges against his client as "ludicrous" in a Facebook post, where he wrote, "The truly ludicrous thing is that Brad refuses to cooperate with the authorities while his wife is missing, leaving his children and family in pain."
According to the arrest affidavit, Barton Simpson stated that Brad Simpson had phoned him and expressed remorse for the issues he had caused.
"According to attorney and former homicide detective Ted Williams, when a person is not involved in criminal activity, they usually voluntarily talk to law enforcement. However, if an individual suspects that law enforcement specifically suspects them of being involved in criminal activity, such as his wife, Suzanne Simpson, being involved in foul play, they will not talk to them, regardless of whether they have a lawyer or not."
Barbara Clark, Suzanne's mother, stated to News 4 San Antonio that she believes her daughter is still alive.
Brad Simpson's longtime friend and business partner, James "Val" Cotter, is accused of concealing Brad's gun following a series of threatening messages from Brad, which were sent just days after Brad's wife disappeared.
"Prosecutor Casey Sandoval stated that Cotter has demonstrated his commitment to protecting [Brad Simpson] by lying to authorities twice about the weapon in an attempt to conceal Brad Simpson's involvement," according to the San Antonio Express-News. Cotter and Brad Simpson have been friends for 25 years, investigators said.
On Oct. 21, Cotter was arrested and charged with third-degree felonies for tampering with evidence and possessing a prohibited weapon, which are related to the investigation of Suzanne Simpson's disappearance, authorities have stated.
On Monday and Tuesday, he was in court seeking to reduce his bond, which was set at $1 million. However, the hearing was delayed on Tuesday due to a flight delay that affected his mother, who was scheduled to testify.
Robert Maurer, Cotter's attorney, argued that Cotter's $1 million bond is unconstitutional, stating that the state's primary motivation for setting the bond so high is to keep him in jail.
Fidel Villegas, the Olmos Park Police Chief, previously stated that it was unusual that this woman, who was dependable and loved her children, family, and friends, suddenly stopped being in contact with them.
Brad Simpson's arraignment hearing is set for Wednesday, November 13th. His lawyer declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital.
Chandler wrote: "Please stand with my mother and our family at my dad's hearing on Nov 13 in SATX. Be present in silence to support my mom, and justice will be served, bringing her home."
