Missing hiker found dead with dogs; estranged husband arrested for murder, fearing for his life.
Susan Lane-Fournier's death led to Michel Fournier being charged with murder.
An Oregon woman's husband was arrested and charged with murder after the body of a missing hiker and two dead dogs were discovered.
On Friday morning, the body of Susan Lane-Fournier, 61, was discovered in the Mt. Hood area after she went on a hike with her two dogs, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Michel Fournier, 71, was arrested by detectives and charged with second degree murder shortly after the discovery of his estranged wife, Lane-Fournier's, body.
According to officials, Lane-Fournier was initially reported missing on November 22 when she failed to appear for work.
A white 1992 Ford F-250 belonging to Lane-Fournier was spotted near East Salmon River Road and the Green Canyon Way Trail south of Welches, leading to a multi-day search by several law enforcement agencies.
According to court documents obtained by local station KPTV, Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce from Michel Fournier just two weeks before she disappeared, despite authorities confirming that they were married at the time of her death.
On Saturday, the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined that Lane-Fournier's death was a homicide after conducting an autopsy.
Court documents revealed that the couple's property in Brightwood was the location of her body.
Two deceased dogs, believed to be owned by Lane-Fournier, were also recovered by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office took custody of the dogs, and investigators are verifying their identities.
One of Lane-Fournier's colleagues revealed to KPTV that she expressed fear for her life before her passing.
Khalid Kamahwe revealed that the last couple weeks before she went missing, she was afraid for her life, which is why she always brought the dogs with her.
Last week, the search was temporarily halted by authorities due to unfavorable weather and the doubtful possibility of finding survivors.
Anyone with information about Michel Fournier's activities and whereabouts in the days leading up to Susan's disappearance or since then is requested to contact the sheriff's office at 503-723-4949.
