Masked motorcyclists surround San Francisco traffic officer in tourist district.
A San Francisco police traffic officer was 'provoked' by bikers, according to a witness.
The police association claims that if the department had more officers, the masked motorcyclists who performed donuts and wheelies around a traffic officer in a tourist area would have been held accountable for their actions.
On Aug. 4, Sanee Iqbal captured a video at the intersection of Lombard Street, which is famously known as the "crookedest street in the world" according to San Francisco Travel.
"Iqbal informed KGO that it was likely 15 or more actual bikers. He described the bikers as honking as they descended the hill. Later, he saw one, two, and three bikers performing wheelies and burning rubber around an officer."
The San Francisco Police Department traffic officer, who was wearing a yellow vest, was "definitely antagonized" by the bikers, some of whom were on dirt bikes, motorcycles, and all terrain vehicles (ATVs).
No additional police officers arrived, and no one was arrested while tourists observed in amazement, as Iqbal stated.
"According to the San Francisco Police Officers Association, the group of cyclists are nothing more than a group of bullies who put the lives and safety of innocent drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians at risk."
The police union stated that having fewer than 600 officers makes it difficult to respond quickly to large groups of aggressive individuals who pose a threat to both bystanders and officers. If the police had the necessary number of officers, more of the offenders would be arrested.
According to others, the bikers have been spotted wearing masks without helmets at other tourist spots.
Neither the San Francisco Police Department nor the police union provided a response to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for information and comment.
