Manhunt for escaped murderer in North Carolina ends with woman's arrest, more than 100 miles away.
Kannapolis, NC: Ramone Alston, the 'Christmas Day Killer,' is Back in Custody after Escape from Hillsborough Hospital
Authorities announced that Ramone Jamarr Alston, the "Christmas Day Killer," who escaped custody on Tuesday morning and fled into the woods near UNC Hillsborough Hospital, has been recaptured in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
According to investigators, a tactical officer arrested him at a hotel on Cloverleaf Parkway at approximately 2 a.m. on Friday.
That is more than 100 miles to the west of where he escaped.
"The state's Department of Adult Correction announced that Alston will be charged with felony escape from prison and will be taken to a high security unit in the state prison system. There, he will resume serving his life sentence for first degree murder and await court appearances for his escape charges."
In Alamance County, a female acquaintance of Alston, Jacobia Crisp, was arrested by police on charges of aiding and abetting a fugitive. Investigators are examining whether he received assistance from anyone else and additional charges may be filed.
A 30-year-old man was given a life sentence for the murder of a 1-year-old child who was shot in the back of the head during a drive-by shooting.
Earlier this week, Sheriff Charles Blackwood of Orange County stated that he has known the escapee's father for a long time, as he grew up with him.
"During a Wednesday morning Facebook streamed briefing, he stated that he was a troubled child who has been involved in criminal activity since his juvenile years. He is extremely cagey and dangerous, with nothing to lose."
In 2015, Alston was one of two gunmen involved in a drive-by shooting in Chapel Hill, as reported by the News & Observer. During the shooting, one of the bullets struck Maleah in the back of her head while her mother held her.
