JonBenet Ramsey's father discusses how the loss of his two children, including his daughter's murder, has impacted his faith 28 years later.
Four years prior to JonBenet's murder, John Ramsey's eldest daughter, Beth, perished in a car accident.
John Ramsey, JonBenet's father, admits that losing his two daughters within four years in the 1990s tested his faith but ultimately made it stronger.
While reflecting on the 6-year-old JonBenet's murder 28 years ago, Ramsey made comments about faith.
"According to Ramsey, losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to a person. Although he has experienced a divorce, job loss, and the loss of his life savings, nothing compares to the overwhelming pain of losing a child."
He experienced that loss twice: first in 1992 with the death of his oldest daughter Beth in a car accident, and then again in 1996 with the murder of JonBenet.
"Losing my daughter Beth four years before JonBenet's death left me devastated and unprepared. It also challenged my faith, as I struggled to understand how a loving God could allow such an innocent child to suffer. However, through soul-searching, talking to friends, and processing the loss, I was able to come to terms with the potential loss of my faith as well."
Ramsey's reflection on the meaning of life intensified after Beth's passing. He revealed that discovering his faith took him several years.
"When I lost JonBenet, my faith remained unwavering. Faith is something that comes from within, and as a left-brained person, I've always relied on facts and evidence. However, when faced with doubts and uncertainties, it's natural to question one's beliefs. But if faith has touched your heart and you've grappled with the complexities of life, then it becomes a solid foundation."
Ramsey stated that he believes both of his daughters are in heaven, although he cannot personally imagine what that would entail.
After her death, his family stopped celebrating Christmas for years. However, they eventually realized that it was not fair to Burke, who was only 9 at the time, to continue the holiday without her.
"Despite not having a Christmas tree or decorating the house, we managed to get through the holiday season. However, we realized that it was not fair to our 9-year-old son, Burke. To make things right, we tried to restore normalcy in his life as much as possible. After three years, we decided that celebrating Christmas was important for Burke's sake and eased back into the tradition."
Despite initially having a list of suspects, including the Ramseys, JonBenet's murder remains unsolved, and the Ramseys were exonerated in 2008.

In 2006, a suspect named John Mark Karr was arrested by police in Thailand for the murder of JonBenet, but the charges against him were later dropped due to a mismatch between his DNA and the DNA found at the crime scene.
Numerous decades-old cold cases have been solved in recent years due to DNA testing, and Ramsey wants police to retest certain evidence for traces of DNA, including external male DNA that federal officials disclosed in 1997, and test other items for the first time using modern genetic genealogy test labs, which have made significant advancements over the last decade.
Over 20 pieces of evidence in the JonBenet murder case remain untested.

Ramsey hopes that partnering with an independent lab with access to private databases will be the next step in his pursuit of justice for his daughter, even if it doesn't yield any results.
He intends to meet with the Boulder Police Department in January to explore DNA testing options, as he previously stated to Planet Chronicle Digital.
