Jail Contraband: Mississippi Lawyer Faces Allegations of Smuggling Phones
A man has been accused of attempting to smuggle cell phones, cigar wraps, and other prohibited items into a jail.
Daniel Sidney Dale, a Mississippi attorney, has been accused of attempting to smuggle cell phones, cigar wraps, and other prohibited items into a correctional facility while pretending to be a lawyer representing inmates.
According to Sheriff Tyree Jones of Hinds County, Dale has been accused of two counts of conspiracy and three counts of smuggling contraband into a correctional facility.
The attorney responsible for the constitutional rights of arrested suspects, Dale, put the safety and integrity of the Hinds County Detention Facilities and the public at risk, according to Jones on WJTV. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges and/or arrests are possible.
Dale pretended to be legal counsel for inmates and smuggled contraband to them several times, as the sheriff stated.
On Thursday, Dale was found with prohibited items and was subsequently held by law enforcement.
Further investigations may be conducted, and additional arrests could be made, according to the sheriff's department.
Since 2018, at least 360 employees in Georgia's state prison system have been arrested for smuggling contraband.
Most of the women arrested were under 30 years old.
