Indictment: Texas woman accused of attempting to drown girl and harming brother due to their Muslim beliefs
Elizabeth Wolf, 42, is accused of targeting children due to their perceived religious or ethnic background.
A Texas woman has been charged with attempting to drown a three-year-old girl and injuring her six-year-old brother, after being accused of attacking the children due to their Muslim beliefs.
On August 15, a Tarrant County grand jury charged Elizabeth Wolf, 42, with attempted capital murder and causing bodily injury to a child in relation to her May attacks on the children, as reported by Fox 4.
The hate crime enhancement in the indictment stated that Wolf targeted the children due to their "Muslim or Middle Eastern descent."
If she is convicted of the hate crime, she could face a longer sentence due to the enhancement.
A 32-year-old woman informed police that Wolf approached her and inquired about her origin and whether the two kids swimming at the pool were her offspring.
Police said that when the woman said yes, Wolf seized her six-year-old son, tore him away from her, and scratched him.
While assisting her son, Wolf is said to have seized the woman's three-year-old daughter and submerged her in the pool against her will.
Both of the children physically recovered, according to police.
Wolf remains in the Tarrant County Jail on a $1 million bond.
