In Chicago, 10 people were shot and one died on the third day of violence near the DNC convention site.
On the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, a five-year-old was shot and a 26-year-old man was killed.
On Wednesday, the Chicago Police Department recorded nine shootings that resulted in 10 victims, including one death, and a stabbing during the third day of the Democratic National Convention in the city. Despite this, the police have been able to mostly control the chaos around the convention site.
Over the weekend leading up to the convention in downtown Chicago, there were 26 shooting incidents that resulted in 30 total victims, with five fatalities. This is compared to the five shootings involving 12 victims with one fatality on Tuesday and eight shootings, four of which were fatal, on Monday.
"The Chicago Police Department Superintendent, Larry Snelling, stated during a Monday press conference that officers are visible and protecting the entire city, including areas around the Democratic National Convention and neighborhoods with the most vulnerable residents."
In Chicago's Archer Heights neighborhood, a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times by his male passenger while involved in a transaction inside his navy blue sedan at 8:20 a.m., according to police reports. The driver exited the vehicle and his passenger made off with the car. The 33-year-old was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and no one has been apprehended for the violent carjacking.
A five-year-old child was shot in the leg at around 10:02 p.m. on North Laramie Avenue, according to the police department. Despite the injury, the child is in stable condition. No one has been arrested for the attack.
A 31-year-old man on West Fulton Street in Chicago's Lower West Side was shot in the hand during a drive-by shooting. No one has been arrested yet, according to the police department.
In the Beverly View neighborhood, a 26-year-old man was shot three times in the torso by an unknown perpetrator. Despite the efforts of the medical staff at the University of Chicago hospital, he was declared dead shortly after. The police have yet to apprehend anyone in connection with the incident.
In the Englewood neighborhood, a 43-year-old male victim was shot multiple times by a shooter who was later apprehended by Chicago Police. The assailant's handgun was recovered near the scene.
In the Woodlawn neighborhood, two men were stabbed at approximately 6:55 p.m. - one in the back of the head and the other in the back left shoulder. The assailant in both incidents is still at large.
At approximately 8:24 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood on South Colfax Avenue, a 20-year-old man was held at gunpoint by multiple assailants and robbed. He was then shot in the right leg and is currently in stable condition. In the same area and time period, a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and is now in critical condition.
At approximately 9:19 p.m. near Oak Street Beach, a 19-year-old male and 21-year-old female were shot in a drive-by shooting. The suspects fled the scene and have not been caught. The 19-year-old sustained a critical gunshot wound to the head, while the woman was shot in the left calf and is in fair condition.
