In 2023, the FBI investigated the Georgia shooter and found no probable cause.
In 2023, the suspect disclosed to investigators that he feared his Discord account was being targeted by harmful hackers.
The suspect behind the Georgia high school mass shooting this week was not directly investigated by the FBI.
In 2023, an FBI report was made anonymously about a student accused of shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday, who had previously made threats on Discord to shoot up a middle school in a group chat.
The FBI in Atlanta did not interview the suspect or visit his home. Instead, they shared information from an anonymous tip with the Jackson County Sheriff.
The sheriff's department's local law enforcement officers conducted a thorough investigation and questioned the suspect's father, but the report did not verify the threats.
According to a report from interviews, the suspect stated that he would never say something like threatening to shoot up a school, even in a joking manner, and expressed concern that someone was accusing him of doing so during the investigation.
The officer investigating the anonymous tips discovered that the information sent to the FBI was communicated via multiple IP addresses worldwide, including Palmdale, California; Los Angeles, California; and Cockburn, Australia. Additionally, he reviewed the email address, phone number, and user profile associated with the threats.
The perpetrator of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, was referred to by their profile name written in Russian.
According to the report, the Apalachee suspect stated that he stopped using Discord because his account was frequently hacked by too many people, and he was concerned that someone might misuse his personal information for malicious purposes.
"The investigating officer wrote in 2023 that the allegation that the Apalachee shooting suspect or his father is the user behind the Discord account that made the threat cannot be substantiated due to the inconsistent nature of the information received by the FBI. As a result, the case will be exceptionally cleared."
If there is no immediate threat to life, it is standard procedure to notify local law enforcement, provide information, and have them investigate leads.
Former FBI agent Rob D'Amico stated on "Fox & Friends First" on Thursday that there are limitations to what can be done when warnings are received.
"D-Amico stated that the local officers interviewed the father and son, and the son denied making the online threats. The father claimed that the son did not have unrestricted access to the weapons. Despite their efforts, they left because there was no probable cause to take any further action."
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesperson informs Planet Chronicle Digital that the parents of the suspected shooter have been cooperative until now.
The shooter's parents are being investigated in connection with Wednesday's attack, which resulted in four fatalities and nine injuries.
The Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, situated approximately an hour north of Apalachee High School in Winder, has taken in the suspect, as reported by WSB-TV.
The investigation into the 14-year-old suspect is focusing on their past and motive, according to Matthew Fagiana, a retired police sergeant and law enforcement consultant.
The suspect's past, including their interactions with victims, any indications of violent behavior, statements or social media posts that could help develop a motive, and recent internet history, were discussed by the suspect.
He added, "That, of course, only scratches the surface of the investigation."
The FBI's Atlanta field office and Jackson County Sheriff's Office are currently investigating the incident at Apalachee High School by examining the scene to gather information about the suspect's movements within the school.
