I-75 shooting: Kentucky police renew manhunt for gunman
A 32-year-old man, Joseph A. Couch, has been identified as a person of interest in the I-75 shooting that occurred in Kentucky.
On Sunday morning, the manhunt restarted in southeastern Kentucky as law enforcement officials continued their search for the gunman who allegedly fired near Interstate 75, injuring seven individuals in the shooting and a car accident.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office stated that law enforcement agencies are searching the area near exit 49 on the highway where a shooting occurred on Saturday at approximately 6 p.m. They are using both foot and drone patrols to investigate the incident.
A 32-year-old man, Joseph A. Couch, has been named a person of interest in the shooting and is considered armed and dangerous by authorities.
According to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the sheriff's office has not yet determined if the person who fired the weapon is the same individual being investigated.
According to Acciardo, investigators believe that only one shooter was involved in the shooting and they do not think road rage played a role in the incident.
Multiple media accounts have reported that police initially responded to reports of a suspect shooting at drivers from an overpass or a wooded area.
London Mayor Randall Weddle previously said that no deaths have been reported.
On Sunday morning, five individuals were shot and were in stable condition, although some of them sustained "very serious" injuries, including one person who was shot in the face, according to Acciardo.
Two other people were hurt in the vehicle accident, he said.
In a public address on social media, Weddle stated that the search area encompasses "rugged terrain and a significant amount of treeline."
The mayor stated that there is no immediate danger in the city, but residents should be "vigilant" as police search for Couch.
A White man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 154 pounds, is described as a couch.
Lexington, Kentucky, is approximately 80 miles north of London, which has a population of around 7,600.
