Hours before President Trump's second inauguration, an Oregon elections office was vandalized and severely damaged.
On Monday morning, the Multnomah County Elections office in southeast Portland had 24 windows and 2 doors broken by rocks, as confirmed by Portland police to Planet Chronicle Digital.
An alarm alerted officers to the incident, and they discovered graffiti on the building.
"The officer stated that there were 8-10 people involved and there was anti-government/anti-establishment graffiti on the building."
Police said multiple suspects fled before officers arrived.
A worker at the election office informed KATU that the vandals broke every window on the street side of the building and threw rocks, but there were no reports of theft.
The worker stated that there was no apparent damage inside the building except for broken glass on the floor and pavement.
No evidence suggests that the vandalism is connected to Trump's inauguration, according to officials.
Police said no arrests have been made.
Officials are urging anyone with information about the incident under investigation to contact Portland police at [email protected] and reference case number 25-17004.
The Multnomah County Elections office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry.
This is not the first political violence incident to happen in Oregon.
An incendiary device was used to set a ballot drop box on fire during the 2024 presidential election in Portland, one of several incidents that occurred in Oregon and Washington state.
The incident, which happened just before Election Day, was described by Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey as a direct attack on democracy.
The first ballot box fire took place in Vancouver, Washington, on Oct. 8 between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., according to the FBI. Despite this, no ballots were harmed in the incident.
On Oct. 28, between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., two more incidents occurred in Vancouver and Portland. In Vancouver, hundreds of ballots were destroyed in the drop box, while officials stated that three were damaged in Portland.
All three fires were caused by improvised incendiary devices placed on the outside of boxes. Investigators found enough evidence to link all three incidents.
A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered by authorities for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
