Hospitals across Texas will start collecting data on noncitizen treatments.
Patient care will not be affected by any response to citizenship screening questions.
Beginning November 1, Texas Governor Greg Abbott will require hospitals in the Lone Star State to disclose information about patients who are noncitizens. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will collect this information on illegal immigrants who use Texas public hospitals for both inpatient and emergency care. HHSC will also report healthcare costs due to "reckless" open border policies under the Biden-Harris administration. Additionally, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued the Biden-Harris administration for not verifying the citizenship of over 450,000 potentially ineligible voters. The executive order, GA-46, was first established on August 8 and will officially go into effect on November 1. Public hospitals in Texas have until March 1, 2025 to gather and report the quarter's data to the state of Texas.
"Stephen Love with the DFW Hospital Council stated that Executive Order 46 will be complied with, and they are currently working within their teams, legal counsel, and people to determine how to capture the necessary information."
Gov. Abbott's Executive Order 46 states that while patients must be asked if they are U.S. citizens, any response to such questions will not affect patient care. This is not meant to influence whether or not a patient should be treated in an emergency situation. Love, a spokesperson for the governor, clarified this point to FOX 4 Dallas. In other news, a new report has revealed that a DHS official used social media to promote illegal immigration. According to the Texas Hospital Association, 6 out of every 10 Texans do not have health insurance. Abbott plans to send the compiled and reported data to the federal government in hopes of achieving reimbursement.
"Texas will hold the Biden-Harris Administration accountable for the consequences of their open border policies, and we will fight to ensure that they pay back Texas for their costly and dangerous policies," said Governor Abbott in an August release.
Since its inception in 2021, Operation Lone Star has resulted in over 510,600 illegal immigrant apprehensions in Texas, according to a May release. Meanwhile, the most recent estimated number of southwest border apprehensions under the Biden-Harris administration is around 8.72 million, as reported by the House Committee on Homeland Security. Despite this, the office of Governor Greg Abbott did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
