Greenland PM considers independence after Trump's acquisition remarks.

Múte Egede, Greenland's Prime Minister, has declared that gaining independence from Denmark is "necessary" and that significant actions must be taken to achieve this goal.

President-elect Trump's post on Truth Social advocating for the "ownership and control" of Greenland prompted Egede to discuss the possibility of secession from Denmark in his remarks.

"Egede emphasized the importance of citizens working together to create new steps in the upcoming election period, based on the foundations already established. He urged the public to take action and shape their future, including choosing their cooperating partners and trading partners."

In his first term, Trump attempted to purchase a mineral-rich, strategically significant area through a "large real estate deal," as previously reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.

American interest in Greenland dates back to the 1800's.

In 1867, the State Department considered purchasing both Greenland and Iceland due to their strategic significance, as reported by Planet Chronicle. Following World War II, Denmark rejected a $100 million offer from President Harry Truman for the island.

The largest expansion of American territory in history would be achieved by acquiring the land, surpassing the Louisiana Purchase.
