Georgia high school shooting suspect's father, Colin Gray, faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and child cruelty.
The suspect's father was arrested in connection to the Apalachee High School shooting in Winder, Georgia.
The 14-year-old accused of shooting and killing two teachers and two students was arrested, and his father was also arrested in connection to the deadly Georgia school shooting that rocked the small community.
The GBI announced on Thursday that Colin Gray, the father of the 14-year-old suspect, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the investigation.
Gray, a 54-year-old man, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children, according to the GBI.
On Thursday evening, the GBI announced that he was arrested on Wednesday during a press conference.
The community is facing a "challenging" period, according to Chris Hosey, Director of the GBI.
"This is a challenging time for students and parents, as many of them are afraid, especially in this county and state. Reports have emerged of students making threats at various schools across the state. In each incident, law enforcement took swift action and made arrests, as we take such incidents very seriously."
The community was urged by Hosey to "unite and stay alert" following the deadly mass shooting.
"As a community and state, we must unite and remain vigilant," he stated. "Students should be encouraged and supported to contact their school faculty with any concerns of suspicious activity they observe."
"Law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels will collaborate continuously to address any incidents that pose a threat to the safety of students, faculty, and citizens in the State of Georgia."
Jud Smith, the Barrow County Sheriff, declared that all nine people who were injured, including two teachers and seven students, would fully recover.
Smith implored the audience to "lift up our community."
""We call them teachers, but I call them heroes," he said, requesting that the children be kept."
