Following the viral spread of a video featuring an armed Venezuelan gang, a Colorado city responds.
The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua was declared a 'Criminal Nuisance' for taking over apartment buildings.
The Aurora City Attorney's Office is preparing court documents to request an emergency court order to clear apartment buildings where Tren de Aragua has taken over, as announced by Mayor Mike Coffman on Friday.
To regain control of these properties, a municipal judge must issue an order. Meanwhile, the law enforcement task force will continue to disrupt and arrest Venezuelan gang members in these buildings. In my opinion, the best course of action is to shut down these buildings and prevent a recurrence of this situation, concluded Coffman.
Aurora Police Department has confirmed that "Cookie Monster," the leader of Tren de Aragua, is currently in custody in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 28.
According to Department of Homeland Security sources, the men in the viral video are armed members of the Tren de Aragua gang, as reported by Fox 31.
The former Colorado apartment resident claims that Governor Polis would not last five minutes against an armed gang. The move to apprehend the armed Venezuelan gang members comes after a blitz of national media attention on the city of Aurora thanks to the efforts of Council Member Danielle Jurinsky. After assisting residents Cindy and Edward Romero on Wednesday, they were able to share a video which has since gone viral online and on the air. Jurinsky was soon featured on the Ingraham Angle telling the Romeros' story, and Cindy Romero joined America Reports on Friday to bring attention to the problem.
Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky has criticized Colorado Governor Jared Polis for his handling of the armed gang takeover in her city. The governor's office has dismissed the situation as a product of Jurinsky's imagination, but the council member has evidence of illegal activity and is calling on the governor to take action. The governor's office has responded by saying that Colorado is a zero-tolerance state for illegal activity and has offered assistance to the Aurora Police Department.
Denver, Colorado's capital and largest city, is a sanctuary city. Aurora, a suburb of Denver, is located in Arapahoe County.
Jurinsky acknowledged that she is not the only local official speaking out, but she is the only one who has a platform to gain attention. "There are other council members speaking out, just like there are other council members speaking, but they don't have the same platform as me. However, there are other council members speaking out," Jurinsky stated in a call with Planet Chronicle Digital.
The governor's office did not respond to a request for clarification on whether the statement was meant to be a threat to Jurinsky. Jurinsky expressed his happiness on a call with Planet Chronicle Digital, stating, "I am glad that what I have been saying is now confirmed. It is unfortunate that people had to suffer for so long, but I am happy that this gang will now be dealt with."
In the future, I hope to be taken more seriously and heard the first time I bring something to someone's attention. Aurora is my hometown and it's definitely worth fighting for! Thank you to all the police officers and residents who helped me bring this to light. Unfortunately, it's unclear when the armed gang members will be apprehended and the buildings will be cleared.
