Florida vacationing parents with children drown in rip current while in Pennsylvania.
A rip current swept away Brian Warter and Erica Wishard, the parents of six, while they were swimming at a Hutchinson Island beach, resulting in their drowning.
On Thursday, a Pennsylvania family of eight, consisting of a couple and their six children, tragically drowned in Florida after being swept away by a rip current, according to local authorities.
On Hutchinson Island, a barrier island in Florida's southeastern coast, a family of eight was swimming when the parents and two teenagers were swept away by a rip current, as per the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
Despite the two teens escaping the current, their parents, Brian Warter and Erica Wishard, were unable to do so.
"The kids tried to assist their parents, but the situation became too risky and they had to swim to safety," the agency stated on Facebook.
Martin County Ocean Rescue responders found Warter and Wishard and started CPR on the shore before transporting them to Cleveland Clinic North via Martin County Fire Rescue paramedics.
The MCSO stated that the life-saving efforts continued in the ambulance and at the hospital, where doctors gave it their utmost effort before declaring the couple deceased.
Facebook's informational travel page for Hutchinson Island posted about the tragedy on Thursday and provided tips on how to avoid and escape rip currents.
Do not enter the water if the beach flag is red.
Be cautious and observe the water before diving, even on days with a green flag.
3. Don't enter the water where waves aren't breaking.
4. Always watch the water as rip currents shift.
In the event of being caught in a rip current, remain calm and attempt to float, signal for assistance, or swim alongside the shore.
The post advises visitors to first visit a guarded beach and read the signs posted there. If they are unsure, they can ask a lifeguard to show them what to look for when spotting rip currents.
The Crisis Intervention Team of the sheriff's office was helping the couple's six children until other family members arrived in Florida.
