Florida man defended his dog against a bear cub and was bitten on the stomach, saying he couldn't bear to watch the dog die.
Blake Sprout stated that he was attempting to separate a dispute between his pet, Karen, and a wild creature.
Last month, a Florida man was attacked by a black bear cub while attempting to intervene in a dispute between the animal and his family's dog.
According to Blake Sprout, his dog was chasing a bear cub that was near its mother and two other cubs after he released the dog from his Volusia County home at midnight on Dec. 20, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.
"The bear latched onto my stomach after growling and charging," Sprout told the news outlet.
Karen, a Pomeranian dog, was attacked first, he stated.
He stated that he saw three bears and his dogs immediately ran towards them.
A video was captured by a neighbor of Sprout intervening in a bear attack on Karen, who was in the bear's mouth.
Sprout revealed that he kicked the object in the chest to make it fall, which allowed him to drop her.
Sprout intervened to protect Karen because she is a family member.
"I couldn't bear to watch her die and tell my kids at Christmas that our dog had passed away."
The FWC later trapped and relocated the bears.
The agency announced that its bear management staff successfully caught three cubs and an adult female bear on the property by setting traps. The family group was then relocated.
In Florida, one is legally allowed to shoot and kill a bear in self-defense or to protect specific property.
