Five individuals discovered deceased within a Utah household.
A 17-year-old resident of West Valley City was transported to the hospital with a gunshot injury.
A Utah family of five, consisting of three children, was discovered deceased in a house near Salt Lake City, according to police reports.
Two adults, an 11-year-old boy, and two girls aged 9 and 2 were the deceased, according to Roxeanne Vainuku, a spokesperson for the West Valley City Police Department. The cause of their deaths was not immediately apparent.
"This exceeds anything typical. We examined the homicide numbers in this city for 2024 and found four for the entire year. This is more than double the previous year," she informed KSTU.
On Tuesday in West Valley City, a 17-year-old was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound, following the discovery of a gruesome scene by investigators.
The "absolutely horrific" incident occurred only in this home, and authorities do not suspect a suspect is on the loose.
On Monday, the West Valley City Police Department received a report from a family member stating that they were unable to contact a female resident living at the property.
"The department wrote on X that we tried to make contact with the house but no one answered. Officers looked in windows and spoke to neighbors, but they did not find any indications of an emergency or crime. As a result, they asked the family member to keep in contact."
On Tuesday, when the woman didn't show up for work, her family member discovered the 17-year-old, who resides in the same home, with an apparent gunshot wound.
"The West Valley City Police Department stated that officers discovered the remains of five individuals within a residence, all of whom belong to the same family residing in the home."
Vainuku stated that police are examining the inside of the home and searching for evidence from doorbell cameras to reconstruct what transpired.
Vainuku acknowledged that there are challenges in communicating with and obtaining more information about the 17-year-old who is injured and in the hospital.
