Fireworks at Stadium of Fire concert in Utah cause injuries
Before the Jonas Brothers performed, a flyover was followed by fireworks shooting into the crowd.
On Thursday evening, multiple videos were posted online showing a fireworks display at the Stadium of Fire concert in Provo, Utah. However, some rogue shots accidentally hit the audience, causing injuries. One person was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, while others were reportedly hurt.
Reports of injuries in the crowd prompted several firefighters to respond, as reported by Fox 13 in Salt Lake City.
At LaVell Edwards Stadium, a fireworks display began behind the stage as the national anthem ended and four fighter jets flew overhead.
As fireworks were launched vertically into the sunlit sky, stray sparks were observed shooting horizontally towards the crowd near the stage. Reports indicated that crowdgoers were waving their hands in the air, requesting assistance from officials.
The Freedom Festival, which hosts Stadium of Fire and other annual events, announced that all fireworks were thoroughly checked before Thursday's show and then checked again after the incident.
"We prioritize safety at Stadium of Fire. Before every show, we conduct a thorough check of all pyrotechnics, and we rechecked them after tonight's incident. We are deeply sorry for any harm caused and are currently reaching out to those affected to ensure their well-being."
The concert continued after a break, with the Jonas Brothers performing from 9 p.m. until the end of the show without any reported issues.
The flyover occurred before the incident, according to Janna-Lee Holland, a spokesperson for the Provo Police Department.
At the moment, the extent and severity of injuries are not known.
The tweet showcases videos of pyrotechnics being fired onto the field, where people were either standing or seated.
