Filmmaker JonBenét Ramsey's father expresses cautious optimism about discovering his daughter's murderer.
In a new Netflix true-crime docuseries, 'Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?', John Ramsey is sharing his thoughts.
The patriarch, JonBenét Ramsey's father, is hopeful that he will discover the identity of his daughter's murderer before it's too late.
"Joe Berlinger, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, stated that John Ramsey is cautiously optimistic about the situation. He has been subjected to mistreatment from the police department, the court of public opinion, and the media. Berlinger hopes that the family will finally uncover the truth for Ramsey's sake."
"John, a strong supporter of finding the murderer, is 80 years old. I hope he has another 10 years left, but I want this case to be solved before he passes away so that the family can have some closure."
The Netflix docuseries "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?" is now streaming, 28 years after the pageant star was killed at the age of 6.
The movie aims to shed light on John's belief that authorities made mistakes while investigating the murder, and how advanced DNA technology could help solve the cold case. It includes a new interview with Ramsey, who is advocating for the continuation of the search for his daughter's killer.
"Berlinger stated, "It seemed like the perfect moment to share this story as there are still many misconceptions that persist." "DNA technology has made significant strides.""
"Berlinger claimed that the Boulder authorities are not forthcoming about whether they have retested or plan to test, and it is time to hold them accountable and obtain new DNA testing to resolve the case."
Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that the murder of JonBenét was an unimaginable crime and the tragedy continues to weigh heavily on their hearts.
"We are dedicated to pursuing every lead and collaborating with DNA experts and law enforcement agencies nationwide until this tragic case is resolved."
The Boulder Police Department will always prioritize this investigation.

On Dec. 26, 1996, in Boulder, a six-year-old girl was discovered dead in her family's home, having been bludgeoned and strangled in the basement.
Several hours after Patsy Ramsey called 911 to report her daughter's disappearance and the presence of a ransom note, the child was found dead, leading to a homicide ruling. However, no one was ever charged for the crime.
Berlinger stated that he has freed six wrongfully convicted individuals, including two on death row, through his film and television work. He has also highlighted numerous other cases and contributed to their resolution. After examining this case, he recognized its similarities with other wrongful conviction cases.
Berlinger stated that the Ramseys were not wrongfully convicted in the legal system, but they were wrongfully convicted in the court of public opinion, which has hindered the case for decades.
The police department faced criticism for its initial approach to the investigation. The crime details and footage of Ramsey from pageants made the case one of the most high-profile mysteries in the US, resulting in numerous true-crime books and TV specials.
Initially, the district attorney suspected the Ramsey family, including the parents and their son, Burke, of involvement in the murder of JonBenet. However, DNA tests conducted in 2008 on evidence found on JonBenet's clothing revealed the involvement of an unknown third party in her death, exonerating the Ramseys.
Two years after Patsy Ramsey's death from cancer in 2006, former district attorney Mary Lacy cleared the Ramseys of any involvement in the murder, declaring them "victims of this crime."
The autopsy report and forensic evidence are examined in detail in the docuseries. Berlinger stated that, after reviewing both, it is "absurd" to believe that the family was involved.
"Berlinger stated that there was no evidence or family history of abuse. The victim had petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes and heart, indicating that a garrote was used to choke her while she was alive. This was an aggressive and violent act committed by a pedophile."
"Berlinger stated that it is undeniable that she died with a garrote around her neck and her fingers desperately trying to remove it, indicating that she was strangled by an intruder in his view."

Berlinger pointed out that the family is still advocating for DNA testing, with new items and old ones being re-examined using outdated methods.
Berlinger explained that the crime scene was not properly secured because investigators initially believed it was a kidnapping.
Berlinger claimed that the police department turned down outside assistance, lacked expertise in homicide investigations, and as a result, the DNA sampling at the time was flawed.
"What is the reason for the delay in retesting? Despite the authorities in Colorado stating that they will retest, they have been quiet about the matter. It is hoped that the film will spark enough outrage for people to demand accountability in Colorado."
The Boulder Police Department collaborated with state law enforcement agencies and the FBI in 2022 to investigate the case. Additionally, they regularly check DNA evidence for any new matches.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation updated over 750 DNA samples from the investigation with the latest technology.
In the movie, Ramsey maintains that the family was not responsible for his daughter's murder, but he does not pinpoint any specific individual as being at fault.
"Berlinger stated that he believes the Ramseys are innocent and that everyone should be re-examined with new DNA testing. He emphasized that this was not a trial by television and that they would not be pointing fingers at anyone. Instead, he emphasized the need for a proper reinvestigation and DNA testing for all individuals involved."
According to People magazine, ahead of the documentary's release, Ramsey revealed that out of the initial items sent to labs, "six to seven of them were not tested."
"Ramsey stated that the reason for not testing the suspects is unknown, and they were not tested."
The Ramseys and their son Burke, who was nine at the time, were not charged with the murder. Berlinger stated that Ramsey believes he will eventually receive the answers he has been seeking.
"Berlinger mused that while he and Patsy are both deeply religious, he does not share their belief in an afterlife because of his own disbelief in it. However, they strongly hold onto their religious views."
""Patsy believed she would be reunited with JonBenét and know the truth before her death, and I think John Ramsey feels the same way," he shared."
