FDNY Assistance Rejected by LA Mayor Bass; Newsom Accepts Help from Mexican Crews
Mexico's aid has left Newsom feeling 'extremely thankful'.
The New York Fire Department offered assistance to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in combating the wildfires ravaging California, but she turned it down, according to the New York Post.
In the Los Angeles area, over 10,000 homes and buildings have been burned by the California fires as of Friday morning. Due to the state's exceeding capacity, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has agreed to cover the cost of additional firefighters.
In recent days, New York City Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker extended an offer to JetBlue to pay for the fares of firefighters traveling to the city. JetBlue agreed to the offer.
On Friday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared that Mexico is deploying teams to assist in managing the Eaton Fire.
""President @ClaudiaShein's support for suppressing the Los Angeles wildfires is deeply appreciated by California, as our partnership and shared commitment to helping communities in need is greatly valued," wrote Newsom."
FDNY officials announced they would prepare a statement during a call with Planet Chronicle Digital on Friday afternoon.
They responded with an email stating that they are unable to confirm or comment on the matter.
