FBI reportedly probing DNC Chicago over maggot-infested breakfast for delegates.
Before any delegates ate the contaminated food, the contamination was discovered.
On Wednesday morning, the breakfast for attendees of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was disrupted after maggots were reportedly intentionally added to their food, according to WGN's initial report.
The DNC 2024 Joint Information Center verified the food contamination incident to Planet Chronicle Digital.
Unknown female offenders are alleged to have entered a building and placed unknown objects onto tables containing food, officials said.
Officials stated that the suspected offenders were believed to have departed the area after one victim was treated and discharged on-site.
The FBI-Chicago is also aiding in the investigation, in addition to the Chicago Police Department.
Activists allegedly brought maggots into the hotel to convey a message, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
"Sam Barloga, spokesperson for the Indiana Democratic Party, stated that all Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but that such attacks as this have no place in our democracy. He added, "We thank the security team for responding swiftly.""
The DNC breakfast guests experienced a food safety concern due to an incident involving maggots, although neither the DNC information center nor the Fairmont can confirm the presence of maggots.
A group of individuals caused a disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning. We are grateful for the swift response of law enforcement, as stated by Chicago Fairmont.
The hotel prioritizes the safety, security, and well-being of their guests and staff.
Chicago Fairmont acted promptly to clean and sanitize the area, maintaining the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness throughout their property. They have strict protocols in place to handle any disruptions.
Before any delegates consumed the food, it was not immediately clear if it was contaminated.
Tracy Boyd, an Indiana delegate representing the Indianapolis region, informed WGN that her group was notified of a brief delay in breakfast service due to the incident.
"The hotel staff and leadership were exceptional in protecting us and turning things around quickly. I would like to give them a shout-out," Boyd stated.
This report was contributed to by Michael Tobin, Kellianne Jones, and Kelly Phares of Planet Chronicle.
