Fauci recovers at home after testing positive for West Nile virus.
According to a report, Anthony Fauci, the prominent figure of the US coronavirus pandemic response, spent six days in the hospital before recovering at home.
Earlier this month, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the prominent figure in the U.S. coronavirus pandemic response, was admitted to the hospital with West Nile virus (WNV), as per a report from his spokesperson.
The Washington Post reports that Fauci, 83, was hospitalized for six days before returning home to recover.
The former head of infectious diseases in the country is predicted to fully recover from the virus, which is mainly transmitted through a mosquito bite, as per the CDC.
Since its entry into the U.S. in 1999, the virus has become the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the country, as per the CDC.
Although a majority of people who contract WNV won't experience any symptoms, the virus can cause fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. Unfortunately, there are no vaccines or treatments available for the virus.
The CDC reports that the virus is mainly transmitted through Culex mosquitoes biting infected birds and then people and other animals. Last year in the U.S., over 1,800 individuals were hospitalized with the virus, resulting in 182 deaths.
Fauci, a renowned public health expert, served as the director of the National Institution of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and was a key member of both former President Trump and President Biden's coronavirus response teams. With over 50 years of experience in the field, he has advised every president since former President Reagan.
Fauci frequently appeared on cable news, primetime TV, late-night shows, and podcasts, providing medical guidance during the pandemic. However, his opinions on contentious topics such as masks, lockdown policies, and the origins of COVID-19 made him a polarizing figure among both the left and right.
In committee hearings, he engaged in a well-known confrontation with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and whether his department within the National Institute of Health supported gain-of-function research.
In 2018, Paul claims that 15 federal officials knew that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was attempting to create a coronavirus similar to COVID-19. However, none of these officials disclosed this scheme to the public.
In June, he testified before the House Oversight Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, denying any attempt to conceal the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic resulted from a lab leak in Wuhan, China. The subcommittee examined classified State Department records that suggest COVID-19 originated from a "lab-related accident in Wuhan, China" and that the Chinese Communist Party tried to cover up the lab leak.
Fauci acknowledged that no controlled trial was conducted to justify the six-foot social distancing rule and defended vaccine mandates for students, employees, and the military, stating, "Vaccines have saved hundreds of thousands of Americans and millions worldwide."
Initially, it effectively prevented infection in some individuals, but its ability to do so was not long-lasting. It was assessed over a period of months.
