Family vacation at popular resort ends tragically with the death of Navy vet dad.
A family gathering at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth, Michigan, turned into a mystery when Robert Loren Bacon vanished.
A father of two and Navy veteran who was last seen with family at a popular vacation spot in Frankenmuth, a Bavarian-inspired town between Saginaw and Flint, has mysteriously drowned and is being investigated by Michigan police.
On Jan. 4, the Frankenmuth Police Department (FPD) and its dive teams located and retrieved Robert Loren Bacon, 52, from the Cass River near Heritage Park.
Melissa McLenna, Bacon's ex-wife, stated that Bacon was last seen on Dec. 27 at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, where he was attending a family gathering.
"McLenna wrote on Facebook on Dec. 29: "He never returned to his family at the pool. Cell phone is going straight to voicemail.""
The FPD said Bacon's family reported the 52-year-old missing on Dec. 30.
A final determination from the Saginaw County Medical Examiner's Office is pending.
Police continue to investigate Bacon's death.
"I am at a loss for words to express our deep sadness. I simply want to express my gratitude to everyone who helped search for Robert, those who prayed for us, and those who continue to pray for us," McLenna wrote on Facebook on Jan. 4.
