A Georgia high school has experienced a shooting, resulting in four deaths and multiple injuries, as revealed through text messages from a student to his mother.

Erin Clark's text messages read: "School shooting rn. i'm scared.  pls, i'm not joking."

The mother then responds to her son and says she is leaving work.

"i love you," the student tells his mom.

"class. someone's dead," the student responds.

The mom tells her son that she just saw an ambulance and police heading in that direction.

Photos and video of the police presence outside the school accompanied the post.

Four people died and nine others were injured at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. The suspect is alive and in custody.

Judd Smith, the Barrow County Sheriff, spoke to reporters on Wednesday afternoon, giving only limited information. Smith stated that he received a call about an active shooter at 9:30 a.m. He confirmed that there were injuries but did not provide any details about the number of deaths.

The sheriff stated that law enforcement officials were conducting a "very fluid investigation" and requested patience from the media to gather all the facts. He predicted that it would take "several days" to determine what occurred and how.

Smith confirmed that a suspect is in custody and is currently in the process of reuniting students with their parents.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
