Delta passenger finds $4,500 worth of items missing from checked luggage following flight.
A Louis Vuitton clutch and a blue Chanel bag were lost by an Atlanta resident.
On Christmas Day, a woman who was eagerly anticipating a holiday trip with her family received disappointing news upon arriving in the Bahamas.
Alison Joyner, a resident of Atlanta, found out that two of her designer purses worth a total of $4,500 were missing from her checked luggage after flying with Delta Air Lines, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
"Joyner expressed feeling violated to Fox 5, stating, "Why would someone do this to me?""
Joyner discovered that her belongings were disorganized and her blue Chanel clutch and Louis Vuitton clutch were absent while unpacking in her hotel room.
Joyner claimed she put an Apple AirTag in her Chanel bag before flying. After tracking the location, she discovered the tag was 30 miles away from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
"Joyner said, "I checked my phone and found out it's in Senoia, Georgia, a place I've never been to.""
The Delta passenger, who was a Platinum SkyMiles Medallion member, was in disbelief after reporting the missing items to the airline, having traveled with Delta multiple times in the past.
"Delta has zero tolerance for baggage pilferage and will investigate the incident. We are contacting the customer to resolve the issue."
The Atlanta Police Department is currently investigating a larceny reported by Joyner, but the incident report is still being finalized and has not yet been confirmed.
Delta did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
The Atlanta resident said the incident may alter her future travel plans.
"Joyner stated that he would definitely reconsider his actions in the future, as he was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events on Christmas Day, a day typically associated with joy, giving, and kindness."
In 2005, the Department of Homeland Security reported that numerous TSA baggage screeners were fired from several major U.S. airports due to accusations of stealing valuables from checked bags.
Traveling requires caution, such as carrying valuable items in a carry-on or using tracking devices like AirTags.
