Decades ago, a California teacher was accused of fathering a student's child: "Stunned, dismayed"
A student's child has been proven to be Graves' offspring through a paternity test.
Two former students have accused a California teacher of sexual abuse, leading to the expectation that he will lose his job.
The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) has started the process of terminating band director Steve Graves, 61, who is accused of sexually abusing two students in the 1980s. Graves is currently on administrative leave.
The law firm representing the two victims, Manly, Stewart & Finaldi, stated that the abuse began in 1986 while Grave was teaching at Loara High School in Anaheim. At the time, Grave would have been approximately 23 or 24 years old.
Two women were 16 when they were sexually abused. One of the victims, known as Reiko, revealed that she gave birth to Graves' child at the age of 17.
Reiko, who became pregnant and gave birth, transferred to a different school and nearly four decades later, connected with another victim through social media, sharing their stories.
The Anaheim Police Department is investigating the matter, but no charges have been filed against Grave yet. The women are considering taking legal action against him.
Supervisors were aware of Graves' predatory behavior but kept him on the job for over 30 years, according to attorney Morgan Stewart, who has evidence to support this claim but has not made it public.
The AUHSD was "shocked, saddened, and upset" upon learning of the "credible allegations."
"Graves was placed on administrative leave and removed from campus after the District became aware of the situation in August. The statement added that AUHSD has been fully cooperating with the Anaheim Police Department as they investigate this incident to identify any other possible instances of inappropriate behavior, harassment, or sexual misconduct by Graves."
