Brush fire in California quickly extinguished after suspect's arrest.
Since the wildfires broke out, LA authorities have made numerous arrests in evacuation zones.
A man was arrested by Los Angeles authorities following a brush fire that occurred in Griffith Park on Monday afternoon.
On Monday at 1 p.m., authorities responded to a possible arson incident on the 2700 block of Glendower Avenue in Los Angeles. As a result, Kevin Caledron, 26, is facing two misdemeanor charges of tampering with a vehicle.
County records show Caledron is being held on $30,000 bond.
The brush fire near the Griffith Observatory was promptly extinguished by LAPD and Los Angeles Fire Department officials, as reported by FOX 11 Los Angeles.
A witness reportedly informed the LAPD about a homeless man setting a fire in the area, but an LAPD spokesperson stated that Caledron is not being charged with arson. It is unclear how Caledron's vehicle-tampering charges relate to the fire.
Since the wildfires broke out in the area earlier this month, resulting in the deaths of 27 people, the LAPD and LA County Sheriff's Department have made numerous arrests in evacuation zones.
Those accused during the wildfires are facing charges for arson, looting, and price gouging, among other offenses.
"Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney, stated during a Monday press conference that the individuals involved in the tragedy are attempting to profit from it. These individuals have engaged in looting and arson, and the district attorney's office is also investigating price gouging and internet scams."
Last week, a homeless man named Jose Carranza-Escobar was arrested for attempting to set fire to a fallen tree at Pioneer Park. He was caught "standing next to the flames" and was subsequently detained by police.
So far, 27 people have died in the California wildfires, with 10 fatalities occurring in the Palisades Fire and 17 deaths in the Eaton Fire.
